…Is there such a thing as … “God’s Will”?
“God” – this word is a symbol for that Reality we are referring to which we cannot adequately name. No finite word can contain the Infinite Reality. The word “God” is both a noun and a verb – a Be-ing whose Reality is Do-ing! A Reality beyond our capability of knowing, since our mind is finite and the Reality is Infinite. Although we cannot understand this Reality fully, we can give it our full attention. On the other hand, this Reality is not beyond our loving It, fully. Our human will’s primary function is to choose, to decide, to move us toward that to which we are attracted. We call this “love”. This word has many connotations. This word is a symbol of our intention.
In our human effort to understand and have relationship with the “Mystery” beyond our ability to comprehend, we anthropomorphize the actual Reality. We say God knows, feels, decides – just like we do. This is understandable. It is initially the best we can do. Unfortunately, it limits a more realistic, mature conscious contact and a vital, personal relationship with this Reality.
Philosophers study knowledge; Theologians study God. Both use their minds to think, to know and to develop wisdom. On the other hand, the Contemplative seeks to live in the “Temple” space of Presence, by adding to this human wisdom adventure, the function of will:
• to decide that this Reality is;
• to choose a personal relationship with this Reality;
• to improve consciousness of inherent unity with this Reality;
• to consent to be in full alignment with this Reality.
“God’s” Be-ing is Do-ing:
• Knowing that manifests as created reality;
• Loving that manifests for the benefit of created reality.
By Nature, this Reality cannot change – It is Everything; It is Pure Spirit:
• It cannot come or go;
• It cannot be more or less;
• It cannot be present or absent;
• It cannot be pleased or displeased;
• It cannot be happy or sad;
• It cannot be rewarding or punishing;
• It cannot laugh or cry;
• It has no “thoughts”. Pure Self-Conscious Reality; Absolute Be-ing: It is All-Knowing;
• It has no “feelings”. Pure Self-Emptying Reality; Absolute Do-ing: It is All-Loving.
This Reality’s Knowing/Loving creates material reality: simultaneously!
This Reality’s Consciousness/Compassion unfolds as material reality: simultaneously!
“God” is “Static Dynamic” Outflowing Consciousness Eternally Unfolding manifesting as created material reality; a reality that evolves by the immutable principles of the nature of matter.
Humans use words and concepts in their effort, to have an understanding of and express a deep yearning for relationship with, Reality. This “Static Dynamic” Reality is poetically likened to:
• the heart function – diastole and systole: simultaneously!
• the energy function – radiant and magnetic: simultaneously!
• Reality without circumference; Reality with Center everywhere: simultaneously!
Is there such a thing as “God’s Will”?
But not with the meaning we humans usually intend with this phrase.
The word “will”, represents that function of the cortex we humans use to freely decide and to take the chosen voluntary actions.
In that sense, there is no such thing as “God’s Will.” By Nature, “God” cannot “decide.” That would imply change.
Perhaps what we humans mean by “God’s Will” is reality as it really is: Reality manifesting as reality.
Our human role is to acknowledge reality – created matter evolving by the change forces inherent in its very nature – as it manifests the “Will of God”. This Reality is Uncreated Consciousness revealing
Unconditional Love: “Mystery’s” Overflow/Outflow.
Silence broken; Word spoken; Reality becomes reality! This created reality is what it is and operates on a set of principles that are non-negotiable. We call them the “laws of nature”.
As image and likeness of Reality, our human role is…. to identify and accept with our knowing minds…
to consent and align with our free will…reality as it presents itself. We strive to become aware of these operating principles outside and inside ourselves and act accordingly – often a clumsy, awkward, tedious process.
When we admit, concede, and surrender to life on life’s terms, we have perspective – the ultimate truth of our created humanity: perceived and accepted. We are gifted humility.
When we choose and decide that there is Reality that is – even though we do not know nor cannot know what that really means – we live as if it’s all true: received and believed. We are gifted serenity, contentment and a sense of well-being.
When we choose and decide that we can have a vital relationship with this Reality – even though there is no immediate external evidence for this desired alignment – we live as if it’s all true: willingness to turn and an experience of being turned. We are gifted a life of balance and harmony, a life that flourishes.
Perhaps the phrase “God’s Will” simply means our intentional alignment with reality-as-it-truly-is. This attitude does not develop from outside our selves. It is our choice, our decision, arising from deep inside our self: the Grace of willingness to turn; the Gift of willingness to be turned; a prayer commitment to our effort and actions that effect the turning.
God is Love – Creative Consciousness: Its very Be-ing;
God is Loving – Unconditional Overflowing/Outflowing Compassion: Its very Do-ing.
God’s Be-ing is synonymous with God’s Do-ing. God’s Will is Reality manifesting as reality.
As “image and likeness”, human nature has replicated God’s very Nature. Our nature, our “true self” is:
• to know: intentional consciousness;
• to love: intentional compassion.
To know reality as it is in order to know Reality as It overflows.
To love reality as it is in order to be in alignment with reality as it outflows.
God’s Be-ing is Love; God’s Do-ing is Loving.
Our be-ing is love; our do-ing is loving.
My will is to know God’s Will – paying attention: acknowledging reality as Reality manifesting.
My will is to do God’s Will – holding intention: aligning my reality with this reality, as it really is.
My decision is to consent with my free will to my understanding of reality’s flow:
• to be in acceptance of reality as it is;
• to take daily actions of re-alignment when I feel “disturbed”, when I am out of alignment.
My action is to align my behavior with my understanding and decision about reality as it presents itself.
With my free will, I decide according to my understanding of universal principles underlying all reality. With my free will I make the effort and take the actions that keep me in alignment with those principles.
My prayer is: “Thy Will be done!”
I am the “image”: I know…I acknowledge!
I am the “likeness”: I decide… I consent!
My consciousness improves, my compassion enlarges: …simultaneously!
Evolution – becoming fully human;
Revolution – becoming fully Divine:
Reality becomes reality; reality becomes Reality: …simultaneously!
Perhaps this is the incarnation we ALL are meant to experience and celebrate!!
