A Meditation

Love heals our wounds.

We record in our cells 100% of the stimuli we’ve ever received. It shapes our biology and psychology by forming our neurology.

Healing comes from feeling our wounds intentionally. Embrace them long enough to name them – my original experience re-examined, re-felt in a context of safety. Reflect on them, their origin, their meaning, their implications, their consequences.

Identify the repetitive patterns and the destructiveness of their results: on your self and on others.

What new thoughts and different behaviors are available to me? What are the opposite reactions and actions; useful patterns that I can experience; healthy habits that I can create?

I have experienced wounds from others and then perpetuated that experience by a continued wounding of others and myself. The chronic stress and pain I have experienced has diminished my life and its quality, has disoriented me, been a source of dis-regulation. I have attempted futilely to re-balance through compulsive behaviors and unhealthy substances – a self-destructive, addictive spiral of disintegration.

I can learn to self-regulate – to do differently, to feel differently, to think differently: a process that will take time. I can re-balance, learn moderation, walk the middle path.

Herb K. was given the gift of freedom from alcohol February 21, 1984. As a result of the application of the Twelve Steps as contained precisely in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, he experienced a profound spiritual awakening in 1988. Since then he has been very involved in carrying the message of recovery through presentations, facilitating workshops, and leading retreats.

He has authored three books to help people access the instructions and confirm the actual process contained in the Big Book for experiencing a spiritual awakening: Practicing the Here and Now: Being Intentional with Step 11 (2017), Twelve-Step Guide to Using the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book (2004) and Twelve Steps to Spiritual Awakening: Enlightenment for Everyone (2010). His books are available on Amazon and other locations.
